What do those who carry out female genital mutilation think?

To my right, sitting tightly next to me Ya Sampa. She is the "bondos" chief in Masanga, the most influential woman in the neighbourhood.

I will not go into greater detail except to say that she suggested herself that she come to talk to the women in the other villages. Today she is convinced that education is more important than female genital mutilation.

It is thanks to her that we have been able to open our school.

I met another one of these very influential women during a meeting in the village of Mathora. A bit of a character who I would prefer to have as a friend. She spoke briefly in her language without paying me too much attention. Result, she gives her approval to the programme.

A woman from Masanga who I met on the road told me: "we the women of Masanga love you!"

I do not question this programme nor the words of these women and I am more than happy to work with them.
